Scope: These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of GateGuard’s cryptographic verification APIs, client libraries, and abuse-mitigation infrastructure (the "Service"). By creating an account, integrating client components, or calling verification endpoints, you ("Customer" or "Operator") agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Service Scope and Defense Architecture
GateGuard provides cryptographic proof-of-work challenge engines, server-side proof validation, and configurable telemetry-based abuse mitigation services.
- Layered Defense: GateGuard operates as an anti-automation and client-validation defense layer. It is designed to work in conjunction with standard application security controls, including session authorization, strict input validation, and application-level firewalls.
- Service Evolution: GateGuard continuously updates challenge difficulty algorithms, threat telemetry models, and client libraries to adapt to evolving automation techniques.
2. Integration Protocols and Implementation Standards
To maintain verification integrity, Customers must adhere strictly to supported implementation specifications:
- Backend Validation Mandate: Client challenges (including UI widgets, hidden fields, and client-side tokens) must be validated via GateGuard’s server-side verification API before the receiving backend processes requests, commits database transactions, or executes upstream actions.
- Integration Boundaries: Bypassing server validation, deploying unauthorized client proxies, or embedding unvalidated client instances within untrusted cross-origin frames without standard API binding voids security assurances for those endpoints.
- Fail-Secure Architecture: Operators are responsible for selecting the failover behavior (fail-closed or fail-open) suitable for their application profile during network anomalies or unexpected endpoint timeouts. Official integrations default to a fail-secure posture when protection is active.
3. Account Governance and Credential Security
- Authorized Assets: Customers may only register and deploy GateGuard verification keys on domains, services, and web properties they own or are explicitly authorized to administer.
- Credential Segregation: Client-side site keys (gk_) are public identifiers designed for front-end challenge orchestration. Operators must maintain strict confidentiality of administrative API keys, signing secrets, and webhook signatures. Private credentials must never be exposed in client bundles or public repositories.
- Authentication Safeguards: Customers are required to maintain hardware or multi-factor authentication (MFA) on administrative owner accounts and immediately revoke compromised access tokens or API keys via the administrative console.
4. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Customers and end-users agree not to misuse or manipulate the Service. Prohibited actions include:
- Submitting automated, bulk, or scripted traffic designed to disrupt, flood, or bypass verification nodes.
- Reverse-engineering, decompiling, or attempting to reconstruct internal scoring heuristics outside authorized software development kit (SDK) usage.
- Conducting penetration tests, load tests, or automated vulnerability scans against GateGuard production infrastructure without prior written authorization.
- Utilizing the Service to distribute malicious software, coordinate denial-of-service operations, or circumvent lawful access restrictions.
5. Risk Scoring, Telemetry, and Enforcement Discretion
- Heuristic Processing: GateGuard’s behavioral indicators, risk metrics, and content-screening scores represent calculated algorithmic assessments designed to detect non-human traffic patterns and anomalous interactions.
- Policy Management: Operators retain final authority over threshold configurations, challenge sensitivities, and access decisions. Operators are responsible for configuring fallback workflows or alternative verification paths suitable for their specific audience and accessibility requirements.
- Continuous Adjustment: Telemetry models adapt to new attack signatures dynamically. Changes in threat landscape velocity may adjust risk evaluations in real time.
6. Availability and Service Guarantees
- Service Delivery: GateGuard maintains high-availability routing and redundant endpoints across global infrastructure.
- Maintenance & Disclaimers: The Service is delivered on a commercially reasonable operational basis. Except where explicitly guaranteed under a separate Enterprise Service Level Agreement (SLA), GateGuard does not warrant uninterrupted uptime, zero-latency response times across public network intermediaries, or immunity from novel, zero-day distributed attack vectors.
- Badge and Trust Marks: GateGuard badges and visual verification indicators signify active integration with the platform’s challenge framework and do not constitute an independent legal, accessibility, or regulatory compliance certification.
7. Governance, Modifications, and General Terms
- Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the binding agreement between the Customer and GateGuard regarding Service access, superseding any prior informal documentation or draft guides.
- Amendments: GateGuard reserves the right to update integration requirements, API versions, and these Terms to reflect technical improvements or regulatory updates. Continued use of the API endpoints after notification constitutes acceptance.
- Governing Law: These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable enterprise service laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
